Amanita Festiva / Porcelain Jewellery Box

In a corner of the forest where logic tends to lose its footing, a lone fly agaric decides it has no interest in blending in with the usual forest crowd. While its cousins were busy sprouting in damp soil and pretending not to notice passing squirrels, this one watched the winter festivities from afar and thought, Why not me?

The mushroom pulled on a cap the colour of bold intentions, then allowed patches of snow to cling to it—broad, soft shapes that make it look as though a storm has paused just long enough to decorate it. Even the ground at its feet gathered a smooth blanket of white. And because moderation wasn’t its style, it crowned itself with a star, as if placed there by a creature with tiny hands and a sense of mischief.

Around its stem, presents appeared in a neat cluster. Some forest animals insist the mushroom grew them like fruit; others believe they’re offerings from unseen visitors. Either way, the parcels form a ring of temptation. Travellers who stumble upon it tend to say the same thing: it looks less like an ornament and more like a guardian of some small enchantment, sizing up whoever approaches.

The central piece hides more than stories. This porcelain Christmas-tree-shaped toadstool contains several functional compartments. One of the miniature presents at its base actually opens—a single secret among the decoys. Inside the cap lies its second trick: a hollow chamber designed for storage or for placing a small light. Sculpted entirely from fine porcelain, both the stem and cap are translucent and will glow if you place bright fairy lights or a small lamp inside.
